Screenings: Various screenings are performed throughout the school year. If you would not like your child screened please send a signed note to your child's teacher. Please read below for further information.
Students are referred to the nurse's office by their teachers for the following symptoms:
Squinting, frequent headache, complaints of blurred vision, lost glasses, complaints of not being able to see the board clearly.
Vision: Students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades are routinely screened for vision problems. Students who do not pass screening twice will have a referral letter sent home to their parents.
Hearing: Students in 1st and 3rd grades are routinely screened for hearing problems. Students who do not pass screening twice will have a referral letter sent home to their parents.
Dental: The public health dental hygienist from Craven County Health Department visits each school year to check the dental health and teeth of our K and 5th grade students. She may also check other grade levels if time permits. If you do not wish for your child to be screened please send a signed note to your child's teacher.
The Smile Mobile will also be visiting Brinson Memorial Elementary School for follow-up dental care and for new clients.
